International Conference “Smart Technology and Sustainable Coastal Life” 2025: Gathering Scholars and Experts to Discuss Turning the Ocean Economy into a Sustainable Growth Engine for Khánh Hòa Province
The Institute of Smart City and Management (ISCM), UEH Nexus Campus Nha Trang – a branch of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) – in collaboration with the People's Committee of Khánh Hòa Province, organized the International Conference “Future of the Ocean 2025.” This initiative exemplifies UEH’s City University model, which fosters academic convergence and knowledge-sharing to support the development of Khánh Hòa, especially through the presence of UEH Nexus Campus Nha Trang.

The vision of “gathering scholars and knowledge” serves the local urban development mission of UEH, with the presence of UEH Nexus Campus Nha Trang
As a leading national university, UEH fulfills its mission to “accompany local development” using the “University in the City – City University” model.
Rather than existing separately, this model helps a university become an integral part of the urban fabric and life. In that spirit, UEH plays a central role bringing together five stakeholder groups—Academia, Business, Society, Government, and the Natural Environment—to co-create and discuss initiatives that contribute to advancing a vision of a green, smart, and sustainable ocean economy in this locality.
This is the driving force behind the establishment of UEH’s regional branch — UEH Nexus Campus Nha Trang, positioned as a place for “connecting scholars and converging global knowledge,” with a vision to “become an international academic center in the Central region,” promoting local urban cooperation and development.
This is an important step contributing to the implementation of the Political Bureau’s Resolution No. 09-NQ/TW and the Khánh Hòa Provincial Resolution No. 01-NQ/TU, while advancing the goal of making Khánh Hòa a centrally governed city with sustainable growth.
Ocean Economy & Marine Technology — Global Trends, Development Opportunities, and Sustainable Growth for Khánh Hòa
The ocean economy is one of the most significant development trends of the 21st century. According to UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the ocean (or marine) economy is growing faster than many other sectors — from marine biotechnology and renewable energy to smart maritime logistics. In Vietnam, Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW (2018) also affirms the strategic role of the marine economy and sets forth the goal of building a prosperous maritime nation.
Located near international sea routes with abundant marine, tourism, aquaculture, and green energy resources, Khánh Hòa holds a critically important position in the sustainable marine economy strategy.
To maximize that potential, Khánh Hòa needs to orient solutions based on science and technology, connecting academia, business, government, and community. In that, ocean technology and green transition will become key driving forces, helping Khánh Hòa not just sustainably exploit its natural advantages but also build a model of marine economy that contributes directly to national growth.
International Conference “Ocean Future 2025” — An Academic Forum to Craft Solutions for Khánh Hòa’s & Vietnam’s Marine Economy
The international conference Ocean Future 2025: “Smart Technology and Sustainable Coastal Life” underscores the journey of building regional branding, and marine/economic/technological development in Khánh Hòa. The discussion topics revolve around three major themes:
Ocean technology in a green economic ecosystem: applying advanced technologies like remote sensing, marine robotics, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), artificial intelligence, and satellite monitoring to enhance governance capabilities and connect science, technology, and the marine environment.
Health, prosperity, and the relationship between urban landscapes and communities: focusing on nature-based coastal and urban design, human-centered approaches to elevate quality of life, and promote socio-economic welfare.
Co-innovation for a sustainable green economy: stimulating cross-sector collaboration, integrating circular economy, green finance, and community-based economy into coastal/marine development strategies.
With the cooperation of UEH, Khánh Hòa Province, and domestic and international partners, the Ocean Future 2025 Conference is intended to be an inspiration-filled space for cooperation and innovation, actualizing the goal of co-creating a sustainable marine economic future for Vietnam and the global community. This marks a meaningful start, opening multidimensional long-term cooperation opportunities, positioning Khánh Hòa as a shining example in the national marine economic development strategy — and reinforcing UEH Nexus Campus Nha Trang’s role as an international academic center in the Central region.

The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), represented by its Institute of Smart Urban & Management (ISCM), in coordination with the People’s Committee of Khánh Hòa Province and domestic/international partners, is organizing two major events in Khánh Hòa in October:
These two events are within the framework of UEH’s local cooperation strategy through UEH Nexus Campus Nha Trang — positioned as “a converging point for scholars and global knowledge.” This is a key move to contribute to realizing the Political Bureau’s Resolution No. 09-NQ/TW and Khánh Hòa’s Resolution No. 01-NQ/TU, advancing the goal of making Khánh Hòa a directly governed city with sustainable growth, and establishing UEH Nexus Campus Nha Trang as an international academic hub of the Central region. |
